A meeting of the Village of Riverlea Planning Commission was held February 13, 2017 at the Evening Street Elementary School. Members present were Bryce Jacob (Planning Commissioner), Janet Brown, Robert Davis, and Taylor Surface. Also present were John McAlearney and Josh Schoenberger. Joshua C. Mehling served as Clerk. The Planning Commissioner called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

  1. The minutes of the Planning Commission meeting of November 14, 2016 were not read since each member had received a copy. Surface noted that the last paragraph used his first name rather than his last. Davis moved and Surface seconded the motion that the minutes be approved as submitted by the Clerk with the above revision. The following vote was recorded on the motion: Yea: 4, Brown, Davis, Jacob, and Surface; Nay: None; Abstain: 0. The motion carried 4-0.
  2. An application for a Certificate of Appropriateness by Josh Schoenberger at 250 Riverglen to replace the patio at the rear of the house and regrade the back lawn. This is being done to alleviate issues that they have had with water drainage. There will be French drains around the new patio, which will also include built in seating and a fire pit.

The Planning Commissioner asked if the plan had been reviewed to ensure that the regraded back yard would not cause any drainage issues for neighbors, and Schoenberger responded that it had and this would not be the case. Davis inquired as to whether the Village had any regulations concerning open fire pits and no one was aware of any such regulation. Davis moved to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness and Brown seconded this motion. The following vote was recorded on the motion: Yea: 4, Brown, Davis, Jacob, and Surface: Nay, None. The Motion carried 4-0.

  3. An application for a Certificate of Appropriateness by John McAlearney at 5815 Crescent to remove the current deck and replace it with a patio. The current deck had been warped due to water damage and needs to be replaced. In addition to the patio, there will be some landscaping changes as part of this project.

Davis moved to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness and Surface seconded this motion. The following vote was recorded on the motion: Yea: 4, Brown, Davis, Jacob, and Surface: Nay, None. The Motion carried 4-0.

Brown moved and Davis seconded a motion to adjourn. The motion was approved unanimously (4-0). The meeting was adjourned at 7:18 pm.
