The first Riverlea School's Out Fun Run will be held on June 2 at 9:30 am. The one-mile fun run will begin with a walk up Riverglen Drive from the Circle Park to the starting line at Riverglen and Pioneer Place. Runners will continue up Riverglen, go right on Carrington Ct., down Southington Ave., take a right on Falmouth, and end back at the Circle Park.
We have had quite a few kids register so far (and some adults, too, including Evening Street's Mr. Brinegar). If you would like to participate, please get your registration [pdf] turned in asap. The run fee is $5 for all registrations received by May 19, or $10 after. Runners get t-shirts and refreshments at the end of the race.
We could use a few more volunteers to help direct runners and to serve refreshments (thanks to the people who have already offered to help).
Please email RiverleaFunRun@gmail.com with any questions, to offer to volunteer, or to request a new registration form. You can also call:
Thanks!

Many thanks to Pat Anderson who provided coffee and cookies at the Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt was a big success. Having coffee and cookies encouraged parents to socialize and become better acquainted while their children had a fine time. Pat's generosity contributed to the sense of community we all strive for in the Village.
And also many thanks to the Easter Bunny, the star of the show.
The Easter Egg Hunt was a big success and he thanked everyone who helped. There were prizes for all. Pat Anderson donated coffee and cookies for the adults.
Some residents requested that the Village look into having a small playground for the younger children so families can meet and get together. Because of pending infrastructure costs, Council said this could only be done if grants or residents paid for most or all of it. Council will look into the cost, liability, maintenance and location so they would have the proper information before asking the residents if they are interested in this.
Marshal. Reported 326 checks with no warnings or citations issued.
Committee on Infrastructure. Briggs Hamor, Committee Chair, reported that they met on April 12, 2012. They are looking at four areas for funding over the next six or seven years, which are bonds, tax levies, loans and grants. Committee members have been assigned to each area to research and report back. The next meeting will be May 3 at 7:30 pm. at 162 W. Riverglen Drive.
Committee on Ordinances. Jenny Jones, Committee Chair, reported that they met March 29, 2012. They discussed what their goals will be. It was decided that residents wanted more user-friendly ordinances which reflected the Village. They will look into the sign ordinance and, since most of the problems seem to be with the planning and zoning codes, they will focus on that area. Some suggestions were to try to simplify the planning approval process, consider intent versus practice of ordinances, review the certificate of appropriateness standards, and how to enforce compliance. The next meeting will be April 30 at 7:00 pm. in room 127 at the Thomas Worthington High School.
Committee on Communication. Jon Ankrom, Committee Chair, reported that their first meeting will be April 24, 2012 at 7:00 pm at 5830 Falmouth Court. They will evaluate the forms of communication we have now and what can be done in the future.
Expenses approved:
Because the bulk of the work of the committee involves land use, the committee is starting with Title XV, which includes the chapter on building regulations, zoning, and signs.
The committee welcomes input from residents. You are invited to attend the monthly meetings (the next one is scheduled for May 30 at 7:00 pm in room 127 of Thomas Worthington HS) or email your thoughts or concerns to the chair (jennyj@riverleaohio.com).
Website. Issues. Some residents do not use any electronic forms of communication and others just forget to visit the site. Suggestions included: Always reference the website in any and all written notices. Make the website more prominent in the newsletter. Shorten articles in the newsletter and direct the reader to the website. Include pictures from neighborhood events. Update privacy policy needs.
Newsletter. Issues: Cost and timeliness. Suggestions included: Allow residents to opt out of receiving the paper copy of newsletter. Find a sponsor or run ads to help/cover cost. Update the graphics and add a kids' corner.
Kiosks. Issues: In need of repair or replacement. Suggestions included: Repair or replace as needed. Put signs in yards announcing important info (meetings, etc.). Let neighborhood kids decorate the outside of the kiosks to help promote new events.
Next meeting: Tuesday, May 29, 7:00 pm at Jody Croley Jones' home.
